the source packages [1] are much less
$ grep zathura cygwin-pkg-maint
zathura Yaakov Selkowitz
zathura-cb Yaakov Selkowitz
zathura-djvu Yaakov Selkowitz
zathura-pdf-poppler Yaakov Selkowitz
zathura-ps Yaakov Selkowitz
$ grep girara cygwin-pkg-maint
girara Yaakov Selkowitz
the others are subpackages: built at the same time and packaged
separately, see
https://cygwin.com/packages/summary/girara-src.html
Look at the source package as starting point for an upgrade,
usually nothing change to much and you can make yourself familariar with
cygport, the standard tool in cygwin for build and package programs.
