Yeah, all white is an important clue here, since it means no rendering
is going on at all.
So, '-engine 1' is what I would recommend also.
(Why this is failing is still a bit mysterious. Perhaps you have some
exotic graphics card and/or buggy driver, which claims to support
DirectDraw but doesn't actually?)
